Jump Start is an audio-visual software geared towards early and middle childhood. It caters for the needs of children in all the academic areas. Therefore any child having difficulties in any subject area can use this software as an additional resource. The software is suitable for children because it is centered around games and fun; using animated people and animals, music, song, colour and games. The animated people, called the 'jumpie', can have different clothing, hair, eyes etc. all manipulated by the player, in an attempt to educate the child and encourage learning and an appreciation for what they are learning. Its bright, attractive colours are also alluring to children. The animations also appeal to children through their singing and talking.
Much like Facebook, JumpStart encourages interaction over the internet. The child is allowed to interact with their real friends during thier learning experience by inviting friends to join JumpStart. They can discuss what troubles or difficulties they are experiencing through the 'buddy' system. The task bar displays "about jump start', 'what's new', 'family fun', 'membership', 'play now', 'wii games', 'manage account' and 'customer care'. An individual can even link from JumpStart to Facebook connecting with friends and relatives. Parents can be updated with regards to their children's activities online.
It allows the user to use the mouse and the navigation keys on the keypad. This shows the relevance and use of both hardware devices. Any child can learn from this software because of its uncomplicated instructions and properly layed out, interactive activities.
This software is relevant as in today's society everything is technology-based and everyone should know how to interact via the internet. So this software not only encourages learning of the academics but hands on experience in a much desired field.
